Peekskill council authorizes WIIA grant application for Lower South Street sewer upgrades

City staff told the Peekskill City Council July 27 that the Lower South Street Sewer Pumping Station project has increased substantially in cost and that the city will apply for a Water Infrastructure Improvement Act (WIIA) grant to cover the updated scope.

Dave Rambo described the project's history and cost escalation, saying "the number... has now gone up to 11,347,000 and change," and that the city intends to rescind the prior $750,000 grant and submit a new application for the larger project. He said the WIIA application was due the day of the meeting "by 04:00." The council unanimously approved Resolution J-2 authorizing the city manager to submit the WIIA application.

Council and staff clarified the matching-share discussion during the presentation: staff noted the specific program described in the memo was a 25% grant requiring a 75% local match, and that the city is pursuing other funding sources to cover the match.
