The Peekskill City Council on July 27 approved a resolution authorizing an application to the Hudson River Valley Greenway for a conservancy trail grant to support trail work at Fort Hill Park.
Matt Alexander told the council the Greenway offers multiple funding tiers — feasibility ($50,000), engineering ($75,000), or implementation (cited as $250,000) — and said the city planned to pursue the engineering grant first, with a potential implementation application later. "We would be eligible for either a $50,000 feasibility study, a $75,000 engineering service study, or a $250,000 implementation grant to... add trails in the city," he said. Councilman Fassett moved the resolution and it passed unanimously.
Staff noted the deadline for the Greenway grant application was Aug. 7 and that significant application work remains. If awarded, staff said the city would return with a request for approval of a larger, implementation grant application next year.
