Town discusses erroneous 4.1-acre transfer to Forest for Learning and options to correct it

The Town Manager reported to the Selectboard that 4.1 acres were transferred to the Forest for Learning without a prior recorded easement that would have required the land to remain with the Town. The Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation is involved and the Forest for Learning board will consider options. If the Forest for Learning does not transfer the land back, the Town would need to find land of equal value, which the Town Manager said could take approximately two years.

The board discussed asking the Forest for Learning to steward the existing trail entrance near the pool and to deed the land back to the Town after an updated survey. The Selectboard said it would pursue an MOU to formalize stewardship arrangements if the transfer is corrected.
