City awards $62,000 contract to replace raised crosswalk on Western Avenue

City staff reported three bids were opened July 16 for the Western Avenue raised crosswalk replacement; Lavadour Construction was the apparent low bidder at $62,000. Staff noted the project is slightly over the budgeted $50,000 because of increased concrete prices and a condensed schedule to complete work before the Western school year starts. "A lot of that could be attributed to the wind farms and the ability to get concrete and also the condensed time frame in order to get this done before school starts at Western," staff said.

Council approved the award, noting the work is intended to restore the crosswalk damaged during recent construction of the Performing Arts Center and to provide ADA-compliant raised crossing. Funding will come from the infrastructure sales tax fund and staff said they will reallocate other construction line items in that fund to cover the overrun.
