North Knox outlines sign replacement, restroom renovations and parking-lot concerns

Daryl, reporting on facilities, told the board that several campus projects are underway or planned: the front sign will be replaced (it is about 18 years old) and will receive LED panels and a painted base; football restrooms have had floor drains installed and are being renovated; new asphalt and French drains were installed near the track and football field; and a ditch behind the campus was cleared after crews found pallets and other debris that could not be burned.

"That sign out front is 18 years old," Daryl said, noting the base will be painted black and the message LEDs will provide a clearer display. He said the district had to haul off pallets and other material instead of burning them because personnel told the district the pallets might be treated lumber. Daryl also reported the gym floors have been resealed and the intermediate lot resealed, and he warned trustees that the large student parking lot suffers from water that comes up from springs under the surface and will need ongoing maintenance to prevent cracking and freeze–thaw damage.

Daryl said equipment for a project called "Eer" is arriving and the work on the first section is progressing; he said some sign and site repairs should be finished in the coming weeks. The board did not vote on additional capital funding at the meeting; Daryl’s report was informational and identified maintenance needs that staff will follow up on.
