Organizer of Orchard Beach salsa launches nonprofit and GoFundMe to sustain Sundays

DJ Carlos Juan Santiago told BronxNet listeners that, as of the day before the recording, the Orchard Beach Sundays organizers formed a legal nonprofit and he launched a GoFundMe to accept donations. “Por primera vez desde ayer ya tenemos una corporación legal,” he said, and asked listeners and organizations to donate.

Carlos said the change responds to rising costs: he estimated each event costs about $2,000–$2,500 and that the organizers pay for permits, police details and park department fees. He said the organizers previously covered many costs personally but can no longer do so. Donations via the new nonprofit will be tax‑deductible, Carlos added, and he urged supporters to share event details on social media and to follow the group’s accounts for updates.
