County opens bids for pit-run and crushed material; engineer to recommend award next meeting

At the 10:30 agenda slot the commission opened two sealed bids for supplies and hauling for a FEMA/FEMA-designated cleanup project. The clerk read unit prices and delivery charges for a wide range of materials (pit run, crusher fines, multiple sizes of crushed rock and chips) and noted substantial price differences between Thompson Contracting Inc. and Noble Excavating.

The clerk said delivery charges varied by carrier and road type; examples read into the record included a highway delivery quote of $550 per mile on one bid versus $325 per mile on the other and differing gravel-road round-trip rates. Commissioners said they would forward the bid packages to the county engineer (Andy) for technical review and expected the engineer's recommendation at the next meeting, when the board will consider awarding the contract.
