Showcase Group proposes ten‑bed youth home on Highway 100 in Heard County

John Kennebrew, executive director of the Showcase Group, told the Heard County Board of Commissioners the nonprofit is remodeling an old daycare on Highway 100 into a ten‑bedroom home for youths in the foster care system. He said the center will provide "twenty four hour supervision, seven days a week," transport residents to area events and offer an opportunity to attend local church services.

Kennebrew said referrals would come through the Department of Family and Children Services rather than youth detention centers and estimated the center would employ approximately thirty workers. The presentation was given during the Board's invited‑guest segment; commissioners did not take formal action on the proposal at the July 28 meeting. The board noted a county need for youth placement options and heard the Showcase Group's operational outline and staffing estimate as part of that discussion.
