The Peters Township Zoning Hearing Board approved a variance allowing the homeowners at 311 Squirrel Lane to encroach an additional 3 feet into an existing nonconforming side yard, effectively permitting a 10-foot side-yard setback at one corner. The board's motion included conditions that the applicant submit building permit documents within 60 days of the variance approval and begin permitted activity within one year; the vote was 5–0.
Architect Darryl Carrick, representing the homeowners Jacob and Caitlin Wilson, explained the design intent to mirror an existing addition and noted that shifting the addition to comply with the setback would create interior layout problems and larger renovations. "We're asking for an extra...which means coming to 10 feet at this corner," Darryl Carrick said while describing the plan to align the addition with the existing rear wall. Board members deliberated, amended the motion to provide 60 days to submit permit documents, and approved the variance unanimously.
