Commissioner: Teen center reaches concept design; library touts strong summer reading participation

Commissioner Donahue told the commission the teen center presentation reached "concept design," and the city will start discussions with the design firm Daniels Chandler about cost estimates and contracting for construction. "We decided to stay with them kind of through the whole project if we can," Donahue said, and said staff and the library board will work with the firm on next steps.

Donahue also highlighted summer reading participation: "We had over 1,000 people total" across four days; he reported the top child read 11,961 minutes, the top teen read 7,950 minutes and the top adult read 19,980 minutes, and he congratulated the finance department on the city's budget being accepted early by the comptroller. The commissioner said there is no final construction timeline yet but described strong community interest in the teen center concept.
