Lantana Police Chief John Choir recognized an officer for community-policing work that connected unhoused residents to services and housing.
Chief Choir described one case in which the officer located a homeless woman and her young child, coordinated with Palm Beach County community-services resources and transported them to a shelter, followed up on medical needs and helped secure longer-term housing with relatives. The chief said the officer "consistently demonstrates the department's commitment to community policing" and asked the council and audience to join in congratulating him.
The recognized officer (introduced during remarks) accepted thanks and said he was "happy to be a part of this team." Council praised the department and noted community outreach programs such as police-led youth events and the department’s role in mentoring youth explorers.
