Danbury council, charter commission confer on 14 council recommendations under state statute

Peter Bizaid, president of the Danbury City Council, opened a joint conference with the Charter Revision Commission, telling commissioners this meeting was held "pursuant to the notice" required by state law and limited to the 14 recommendations the council had submitted. He framed the session around Connecticut General Statutes §7‑191 and asked commissioners to direct any questions about council rationale to the council members who sponsored or debated each motion.

The two bodies reviewed council proposals ranging from wording changes—such as replacing the word “appointed” with “nominated”—to governance questions including staggered terms for the Board of Education, whether the town clerk should remain elected, requirements for reporting gifts to the council, and how the council and board of education should handle sensitive student and financial information. The conference concluded with motions to adjourn the council portion and the commission’s session recessed for a break; no formal council votes on the substantive recommendations took place in the conference.
