Council debates removing staggered Board of Education terms, citing continuity concerns

The Danbury City Council recommended eliminating staggered terms for the Board of Education, a move some council members supported as returning the board to uniform election cycles and others opposed because staggered terms preserve experienced members who mentor newcomers. One commissioner described the tradeoff, saying the concern behind staggered terms is that without overlap "you've got some experience and wisdom that you would lose by having a whole new board of that come in potentially."

Commissioners asked about the practical consequences—election frequency and cost—and the council said the discussion had touched on those issues in prior debate but did not produce a single rationale controlling the vote. The commission accepted the explanation and asked for any additional documentation attached to the council minutes when drafting final language.
