Council seeks to reinstate requirement that mayor report city gifts to council

The council recommended reinstating or inserting a reporting requirement in section 4‑1 of the charter so that gifts made to the city are reported to the city council. Council members said the proposed change would restore a prior practice: as one council member explained, "there was a sentence that was struck out, that required the mayor when he received a donation to report it to the city council."

Commissioners sought clarification on whether the report would be monetary only and whether the finance department already received these reports; council members replied that finance may receive information but the council asked for direct reporting to the council in list form to ensure transparency. The commission will consider precise drafting to specify reporting format and frequency.
