New Welcoming Coordinator introduced as liaison for Lincoln’s cultural centers

The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners introduced Mariella Resendiz Alvarado on July 23 as the new Welcoming Coordinator, a position funded jointly by the City of Lincoln and Lancaster County and administered by the Cultural Centers Coalition. Resendiz Alvarado said she intends to serve as a bridge between local government and Lincoln’s five cultural and community centers to communicate the needs of New Americans and connect residents to resources.

Chair Christa Yoakum welcomed Resendiz Alvarado and noted the position continues work begun by the previous coordinator, Lisa Guilford, who contributed to Lincoln becoming a certified welcoming city. The Board’s announcement framed the role as focused on outreach and coordination rather than direct service delivery; no formal action beyond the introduction was required at the meeting.
