During new business and after budget approval, Member Joseph Cataldo raised two downtown circulation and land‑use ideas for staff consideration.
Mr. Joseph Cataldo said the parking behind the courthouse is underutilized and proposed the City consider acquiring that paid lot so it could be used for future downtown redevelopment: "His idea would be for the City to look into acquiring that parking lot." Cataldo also proposed converting 19th Street to a one‑way street to improve traffic flow. City Engineer Danessa Chambers noted there is a cul‑de‑sac on 19th Street and warned that a one‑way conversion could create safety issues because drivers might be inclined to go the wrong way. Chairman Terry Torres asked staff to take an informal look at both ideas.
No formal motion or vote to pursue acquisition or conversion was taken; the committee requested staff review and report back with findings.
