Information-only demonstration: Draper Parks & Recreation highlights conservation garden

Rhett Ogden, identified in the recording as the Draper City Parks and Recreation Director, gave a tour and overview of the Community Conservation Garden at the Parks and Recreation office and invited residents to visit the demonstration site at their convenience.

Ogden said the garden showcases drought-tolerant plants that remained healthy through low precipitation and snowpack, and noted that each plant is tagged with a QR code that provides its name and information about its drought tolerance and soil preferences. He pointed to features designed to save water, including different rock and mulch treatments, seating areas and a recirculating fountain that is refilled about once a year to minimize evaporation. Ogden said the garden also includes a simulated backyard area with limited sod, hard-packed areas and a fire pit to illustrate low-water landscape options.

Ogden provided the office address, 12354 South 800 East, and said the demonstration garden is open to residents without an appointment. He invited residents to scan the onsite QR codes and contact Parks and Recreation with questions.
