Committee authorizes fall auction of tax‑deeded properties; repurchase period runs through Sept. 10

The committee recommended final passage of R26‑051 on July 22, authorizing staff to prepare for a public auction in the fall of 2026 of properties the city acquired through tax‑seeding. Diane Mahon, Treasurer and Tax Collector, said the city met statutory requirements under New Hampshire RSA 8076 and 8077 and that former owners retain a statutory 90‑day repurchase period; Mahon said any property repurchased before auction will be removed from the list.

Mahon said the auction will be publicly advertised to ensure fair bidding and that proceeds will be distributed in accordance with state law (Mahon referenced RSA 80‑88). She noted mobile homes will be offered at auction if not repurchased but that purchasers in mobile‑home parks must meet park application requirements. The committee asked operational questions about timing and whether approval should wait for planning‑board review; staff advised the committee could recommend passage and still accept planning‑board recommendations later or re‑refer if necessary. The chair called the vote and announced the motion carried.
