Board members celebrate graduations, Project Graduation and summer events; chair emphasizes swim safety

Board members used the July 23 meeting to highlight recent and upcoming community events, congratulate staff and students on end‑of‑year activities, and reiterate safety priorities.

Jimmy, Bill, Laurie, Meher and others reported on moving‑up and graduation ceremonies; Jimmy said Franklin Park’s moving‑on ceremony drew about 300 people and praised the high school graduation planning. Nick (speaker 3) reported Project Graduation provided breakfast to about 450 students the morning of graduation practice and that 309 students attended the overnight Project Graduation event, which the board praised for keeping students safe. Bill emphasized swim safety and said he will continue to push for cooperation between the school system and a planned YMCA to improve swim instruction in the community.

Other community items included a community health center day planned for Aug. 4 at the Hamilton Street campus, a backpack drive for school supplies, an author event at Cedar Hill Prep and a nature hike tied to the town’s semiquincentennial activities. Board members asked families to watch for bell‑to‑bell communications for the coming school year.
