Martin County Supervisor of Elections Vicki Davis outlines canvassing board duties

Vicki Davis, Martin County Supervisor of Elections, gave a public overview of the county canvassing board and its role in ensuring election integrity. "Elections are all about security and the integrity of the process," she said, adding that the board's work helps ensure "that your vote counts."

Davis told listeners that Florida law establishes a canvassing board in each of the state's 67 counties and described the board's primary responsibilities: ensuring compliance with Florida election laws, verifying the accuracy and validity of votes cast, and certifying election results to the state of Florida. She said the Martin County canvassing board is composed of three elected officials who will not appear on the upcoming ballot and that the board represents the three branches of government.

Davis named the officials who will serve on the local board: Judge Kathleen Roberts, who she said has served for 22 years; Commissioner Ed Campy; and Commissioner Eileen Vargas, who will serve as the alternate commissioner. Davis emphasized the certification role of the board, saying it is responsible for "certifying the election results to the state of Florida."

The presentation was framed as an effort to increase transparency and public confidence in local elections. Davis closed by restating the board's purpose: "The canvassing board serves to protect your vote."
