Subcommittee debates language to reimburse nonprofit school food service account for unpaid meal charges

Committee members discussed changes requested by Dr. Dabrito to clarify how unpaid meal charges and bad debt are handled. Staff said bad debt is defined so that unpaid meal charges “must be written off as an operating loss” and that such debt “cannot be absorbed by the nonprofit school food service account, but must be restored using non‑federal funds.”

Members asked staff to add explicit reimbursement language and to decide whether the text belongs in the definitions section or in the operating procedures. Staff and members cited specific pages in the draft (page 33 and page 36) and discussed references to MyPaymentsPlus as a district payment system. The subcommittee agreed to have staff add the requested paragraph and bring back a finalized draft at the next meeting.
