Court asks governor and federal agencies to expedite aid for ranchers and timber operators

Harney County Court’s proclamation asks the governor to declare a state-level emergency and requests that federal officials expedite assistance to local agricultural producers, saying drought and wildfires have caused "extensive and ongoing loss."

During the session the presiding officer said the county has been in contact with staff for U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden to press concerns about keeping power on for residents and critical facilities. "I've already been in contact…with Sen. Wyden staff, and expressed those concerns," the Chair said, noting that the county would continue local talks with utility companies while also seeking higher-level help if needed.

The proclamation explicitly requests federal agricultural assistance; the Chair asked that the emergency declaration be submitted through the county's emergency-management channels so state and federal partners can respond.
