UNFPA describes shelter visits and mobile services in La Guaira after quakes

In response to questions about field operations, Paolo Narvaez said UNFPA has been able to provide services in four temporary shelters and has mobile outreach to additional sites. He said nearly 23,000 people are currently staying in temporary shelters and that nearly 18,000 people have lost their homes.

Narvaez said he personally visited the Maria Vargas sports complex, Cesar Nieves Stadium, Playa Grande, and Marabajo in La Guaira to assess needs. He confirmed coordination with national health authorities for in-situ services and noted the presence of international medical teams, including doctors from the Dominican Republic working in shelter clinics alongside UNFPA teams. Narvaez stressed the need to continue supporting international cooperation and volunteer deployments because health and protection needs will persist beyond the first weeks of the emergency.
