Decision on Ashby Elementary playground tabled amid ownership and ADA-cost uncertainty

The committee discussed an ADA complaint affecting the Ashby Elementary playground and whether the district or the town is responsible for bringing the equipment into compliance. Superintendent Morgan said the town administrator is collecting cost estimates and that the playground may need removal if not brought into compliance; Lisa Bloom and other members noted the playground was originally funded by an Ashby playground committee and may not be district-owned.

Committee members asked staff to research historical records and any donation acceptance votes; members suggested alternatives such as fundraising, town payment, or temporary fencing to mitigate liability until the planned property turnover on Oct. 30. "We don't know if this is something that is the responsibility of the school district? Is it something that is the responsibility of the town?" Superintendent Morgan said. The committee voted to table the discussion pending more concrete numbers and documentation.
