Committee adopts student cell-phone policy; some members vote no or abstain

After a short discussion and no public comment, the committee moved to adopt policy GBEF/JICJ on the use of cell phones and portable communication devices by students. Michael LaBlanciere moved adoption and the motion was seconded; the policy passed on a roll-call vote with some dissenting votes recorded.

The roll-call showed two members voting 'no' and one abstention; the chair declared the policy passed by majority. Committee members noted that the handbook will be adjusted to align with the policy outcome or, if the policy is later altered, the handbook will be revised and republished.
