Speaker urges city to convert 10‑acre peninsula parcel to public park, citing wetlands and wildlife

Mike Resigno urged the council to preserve the city‑owned 10‑acre parcel at Peninsula Harbor Station North (Block 660.01, Lot 1; P‑25‑024) as public parkland, to buffer nearby development and protect wetlands overseen by the NJDEP. He noted the planning board approved changing the property from residential to commercial and recreational uses and said the council would hold a public hearing on Aug. 12, 2026.

Resigno proposed amenities including a kayak launch and wildflower trails, stressing that the site is already used by employees and wildlife: "Bald eagles, osprey, great blue herons...numerous songbirds use it nesting area during the summer." He said the site could be a segment of the South Waterfront Walkway and urged the city to finish the waterfront walkway connection.
