Public-housing resident urges greater Bayonne Housing Authority transparency and oversight

Roberto Betancourt, a resident of public housing, asked the council to prioritize accountability and transparency at the Bayonne Housing Authority and to ensure commissioners provide independent oversight. He requested a public report showing who appointed each commissioner, term expirations, meeting attendance, grievance counts, and how disability accommodation requests are handled.

Betancourt emphasized that tenants are not asking the city to take over the authority but to ask questions and ensure the board fulfills its responsibility to low‑income, elderly, and disabled residents. He asked the new administration to examine whether complaints are being filtered through a single person or small group and to make sure the board hears residents directly.
