Commissioners press staff on lot size, deck dimensions and materials for church remodel

Before voting on File 2026079, commissioners raised several technical questions about the application. A commissioner identified a possible typo in the staff report's lot size figure (reported as 0.19 acres); planning staff said parcel figures were pulled from Jackson County property data and discussed alternate numbers during the exchange, including references to 2.19 acres and 8,276 square feet.

Commissioners also asked for the dimensions of the rear deck. Staff and an architect present described the deck as "pretty small," estimating it would extend roughly 20 feet from the parking area and giving a rough footprint of about 20–30 by 20 feet. On materials, staff said the intent is to match the church's existing wood materials and confirmed a condition requiring applicants to submit final material samples for review prior to building permit. Staff also said that synthetic decking (Trex) would not be permitted for this historic building under the recommended conditions.

Those clarifications were read into the record before the commission closed the public hearing and took a final vote on the certificate of appropriateness.
