Superintendent highlights awards, summer programs and $3,000 admin-certification option for experienced teachers

Superintendent Martin used his report to highlight district accomplishments and upcoming professional-development opportunities. He announced Preston High School was recognized as a Student Success Champion for three consecutive years and cited a 7% increase in FAFSA completion at the high school. Martin also thanked counselors Shelley Piles, Jane Lane and Vicky Parks for their work supporting seniors.

Martin told the board he received a revised notification from the West Virginia Office of Special Education confirming the district remains at the "meets requirements" rating. He also described an opportunity from the Mountain State Educational Service Cooperative for teachers with 15 years' experience to pursue administrative certification for $3,000 total; district policy on whether the district or participants pay, or a combination, remains to be decided and teacher interest will be gauged.
