Resident Greg Mueller urges county to take over maintenance of private road

Greg Mueller, who identified himself as living on "White County Lane," told the board that he and neighbors have maintained a private road for more than 20 years and asked how they might get the county to assume maintenance.

"I just wonder how I can get the county to eventually start maintaining the roadway," Mueller said, describing turnover in property ownership and new neighbors who have not contributed to maintenance. He said bank-financed sales have complicated easements and that neighbors currently shoulder costs.

Board members noted that the road is private and told Mueller that the county could accept a road only after it is brought up to county standards; the presenter said a community would have to get the road "brought up to those standards." The Chair agreed staff will address what steps, if any, are needed to pursue acceptance.

No formal motion was made; the exchange was taken as a citizen request that staff investigate county standards and options for private-road acceptance.
