County staff told the board the declaration has no predefined expiration and recommended the board revisit the matter in a few weeks to determine whether to continue the emergency status or seek the governor's assistance.
"There's no expiration date. I would just recommend that we circle back in a few weeks, and address whether we need to continue the emergency or kind of find a semi kind of permanent solution to arrest and fire season," the staff presenter said. Commissioners agreed that reassessment was appropriate and that, if conditions worsen, the county could ask the governor for further assistance.
The board also recorded a procedural motion to adjourn after the vote; staff listed an action item to reassess the need for continued emergency authority by the date set for follow-up.
