McGrath Park renovation moves ahead with $780,000 Texas Parks & Wildlife grant

Parks staff briefed the board on plans to renovate McGrath Park on North Main, describing a new skate park, updated basketball courts, a relocated playground, expanded parking and upgraded lighting.

Staff said the project is supported by a Texas Parks & Wildlife grant. "Texas Parks Wildlife gave us $780,000 and then the city matched them," the presenter said, describing the grant as a key funding source and noting the agency’s involvement in design review.

Staff said the project ranked second on the city’s parks match plan and that Texas Parks & Wildlife provided design input during the application process. Board members asked how Texas Parks & Wildlife participates in oversight; staff explained that grant recipients must meet the agency’s application and project requirements and that the agency reviews plans before final approval.

No final appropriation vote was recorded at the meeting; staff indicated the grant and matching funds will be used to proceed with design and construction steps.
