Sawyer Lake Village District commissioners discussed plans to construct a building to house mailboxes and considered volunteer labor as a cost-saving measure. Meeting discussion estimated that, if volunteers performed the labor, the cost of materials would be about $10,000; commissioners recommended obtaining a contractor quote to include in the 2027 budget.
Tom LeMien and resident Mike Doyon led the discussion on design, accessibility and maintenance; concerns included snow removal and whether a handicap ramp could be kept plowable. Commissioners agreed to consult the U.S. Postal Service and the Town of Gilmanton about setbacks, lot lines, and mailbox design before finalizing plans.
On operational matters, David Ferber volunteered to assume responsibility for mailbox fee collection, custody of mailbox keys and inventory of supplies; Tom LeMien agreed fee collection should be handled by a commissioner. David will contact Mike Kehoe to arrange required paperwork and supplies.
