Hampton committee prioritizes flood mitigation, municipal climate assessment and evacuation mapping

Resilience measures were a central part of the Committee's 2026 priorities. Members identified resident education on flood-hazard mitigation (including online and print resources and one-to-one technical assistance), a municipal climate impact assessment process to evaluate capital improvements, and evacuation route mapping with signage as priority actions.

The Committee emphasized using scientific modeling to illustrate project longevity and to avoid funding projects with adverse climate impacts or limited useful life. Evacuation mapping was raised with an eye toward installing signage and factoring evacuation protocols into Route 1A planning.
