Design Review Board approves Travelers Table sign, allows matching window and door graphics

The Fort Thomas Design Review Board approved replacement signage for Travelers Table at 1011 South Fort Thomas Avenue after members concluded the proposal fits existing design and zoning limits. A committee member moved to approve the proposed signage "as presented," including front window and door graphics discussed during the meeting; the motion passed by voice vote.

Chalice Hodge, owner and executive chef of Taste Food and Wine Group, which is transitioning the location to Travelers Table, presented the proposed ACM panel sign and described plans to simplify existing window screening. "My name is Chalice Hodge. I am the owner and executive chef of Taste Food and Wine Group and currently... soon to become Travelers Table," Hodge said when identifying herself to the board. Hodge told the board she plans to replace or reduce the upper window screening to a simpler white logo concentrated on the center windows and confirmed the sign will reuse the existing bracket and be comparable in size to the current sign.

A staff member told the board that size and location had already been reviewed by the zoning administrator and that the board's review includes any window signage. "The regulations state 30%," the staff member said, noting the proposed window logo coverage appeared to be roughly 25% and therefore within the limit. Board members asked about materials and font; Hodge said she designed the graphics herself and that the sign art would be printed, not carved.

The committee member who made the motion said the presentation and supporting materials were acceptable and specifically included approval of the front window and any additional signage on the door "as discussed." Chalice Hodge seconded the motion; the board approved it by voice vote.

Staff said that if the final signage and window treatment match what was shown, the applicant likely will not need to return for further design review and that the city will issue a permit for the main sign. Staff added the city reserves the right to require resubmission if the final installation departs clearly from the approved visuals. Hodge told the board the restaurant transition is expected around mid-August.
