Greene County commissioners set 0.25‑mill bridge levy renewal for November ballot

Greene County commissioners on July 9 approved a Resolution of Necessity asking the county auditor to certify the total current tax valuation and projected revenue from a 0.25‑mill bridge levy renewal to be placed on the November 2026 ballot. The motion was moved by Richard D. Gould and seconded by Sarah J. Mays; the roll call vote was unanimous.

County Administrator Brandon Huddleson told the commissioners the county engineer did not have time to prepare a five‑year report on the bridge program and had suggested a replacement levy, but staff advised that renewing the existing levy may be easier. Huddleson said the current levy “will expire in 2025 with collection in 2026” and that, through the Budget Commission, commissioners could request suspension of collection if the funds are not needed; final collection decisions will depend on what is required to keep county bridges properly maintained.

The certified revenue figure will be set by the county auditor as the next procedural step; the resolution asks for that certification based on a 0.25 mill renewal. The action recorded in the minutes is Resolution 26-7-9-6 and passed on a unanimous roll call.
