County administrator: partnerships and contracts advancing Lake County dog shelter improvements

The county administrator updated commissioners on the dog shelter and related steps to improve operations. He said staff from the Lake County Humane Society visited for training and facility assessment and that the county has “secured a contract for it, if and when we have to, unfortunately, put a dog down,” so that proper burial services are available for animals that must be euthanized. He also reported that four dogs will be spayed and neutered and put up for adoption next week, and that HVAC repairs are underway with temporary commercial units maintaining comfortable temperatures.

Commissioners thanked staff and the Humane Society for the work and noted partnerships to expand spay/neuter services and other operating improvements. The administrator said increased relationships with the Humane Society and procurement of burial and veterinary services represent progress on previously raised concerns about shelter operations.
