The Civil Service Commission voted unanimously to enter executive session July 9 to conduct personnel interviews. In open session Member Doug Backens moved and Member Dave Pinkall seconded the motion "for the purpose of evaluation of the job performance of a person to prevent the needless injury to the reputation of a person" and because the executive session was "necessary for the protection of the public interest;" the roll call vote was Tellatin, Backens and Pinkall — Aye.
The minutes record that discussion in executive session was limited to interviews and that "No official actions or votes were taken during the executive session." The executive session began at 8:10 a.m.; the Commission returned to open session and voted to exit the executive session at 8:24 a.m. The minutes note that interviews of a police officer candidate were conducted during that closed session but do not record the candidate’s name or any decisions made in open session about hiring.
