Canton officials praise turnout at July 4th Plus One; Rec Park draws positive attention

Mayor Smathers opened the meeting by thanking Town employees for their work on the July 4th Plus One event and thanking Champion Credit Union for the fireworks, saying “there was a great turnout.” Aldermen and alderwomen echoed appreciation for staff work, decorations and the employee picnic.

Alderwoman Proctor said she had received three positive messages about Rec Park and noted TikToks being made in support. Alderman Hamlett referenced a Mountaineer article about a woman who fell and urged residents to check on neighbors as winter approaches.
