City manager updated the council on two transportation-related projects at the start of the July 22 meeting. Following recent storms, erosion exposed a Kinder Morgan high-pressure natural gas line along El Mirage Road; city staff worked with Kinder Morgan to secure the line and complete emergency roadway repairs to protect public safety.
"Following the recent storm activity, erosion exposed a Kinder Morgan high pressure gas line, natural gas line, requiring immediate emergency response and roadway repairs," the city manager said. Staff presented before-and-after photos showing sandbags protecting the line and the restored roadway.
The manager also reported that the two-mile Air Expressway rehabilitation project is substantially complete; only final punch-list items, including striping, remain and staff anticipates completion by the end of the next week. Council and staff framed the work as important to residents, school buses and first responders and as part of ongoing transportation-corridor investments.
