Adelanto honors inaugural interns and awards cannabis-funded college scholarships

Adelanto presented certificates to two rising seniors, Keyasia Daniels and Candace Gonzalez, recognizing their work digitizing thousands of city records as part of the city’s first high-school internship program. City Manager Andrew and council members praised the interns’ contributions and invited them to appear on the city podcast to share their experiences.

Mayor Gabriel Reyes and Mayor Pro Tem highlighted the newly created Green Futures Cannabis Scholarship Program, funded by a portion of local cannabis tax revenue. Mayor Pro Tem said the scholarship started at $15,000 and the long-term goal is to grow awards up to $50,000 per recipient; the awards are to be dispersed directly to educational institutions and must be used within five years. "Every single penny of these $15,000... comes from the city... and all of the legal cannabis operators in the city of Adelanto," a council member said on the record. The council presented plaques and encouraged the interns to consider returning to local public service after graduation.
