Governor's office warns of Medicaid losses tied to redeterminations and budget pressures

A representative from the governor's office briefed the commission on agency budgeting and the operational challenges associated with federal and state changes. The official reported state estimates that about 1,400 people will lose Medicaid coverage in the relevant review cohort and said the state can immediately cover fewer than 200; officials plan to prioritize those whose housing depends on home- and community-based services and to triage remaining spots by acuity.

"We had to decide who was gonna retain out of those, you know, less than 200 people," the governor's office official said, noting that the first group was being grandfathered if their Medicaid supported their housing, and that remaining slots will be assigned based on severity of need. Staff described an outreach plan including translated notices and more targeted enrollee assessments as agencies prepare for a wave of reassessments and potential coverage losses.
