Commission notes Citizen Academy, airport-road bike concerns and Rogue Lake bathrooms during July meeting

Following the conditional use hearing and vote, the commission heard brief staff and commissioner updates.

Commissioner Wade raised safety concerns about a recent bicycle event on Airport Road and asked whether a permit had been issued for that stretch; staff said there was no permit for Airport Road specifically and that the city had issued a temporary land use permit for the Fireweed 400 on Richardson Highway but not for Airport Road. "We didn't specifically have a temporary land use permit, or anything that would have, come to my department for the airport road area," staff said.

Commissioners and staff also promoted the City’s Citizen Academy program, which the clerk started to educate future board and council participants; staff said a land-use planning session is scheduled in August. The commission received an update on Rogue Lake restroom planning and was told a proposal will be brought forward to the Parks and Recreation Commission and City Council for approval.

The chair thanked participants and adjourned the meeting.
