Township staff and police work with mall on locked exits, emergency access concerns

Township staff told the Board of Supervisors on July 8 that they are addressing public-safety and access concerns at Exton Square Mall after complaints from tenants.

Todd Greenawalt, Codes Administrative & Enforcement Manager, said a complaint reported that doors from Boscov's leading to the parking garage were locked while an "emergency exit" sign remained; representatives from Boscov's agreed to remove the sign and board the doors. Greenawalt also said Mainline Health reported locked exits into the mall that limited staff ingress and egress; township staff are working with mall representatives to find a solution. Police Chief Lee Benson said the Police Department is coordinating with mall security to address those public-safety concerns.

No formal action was recorded beyond staff follow-up; the board adjourned at approximately 7:00 p.m.
