Commissioners reclassify county administrator job and add budget officer duties

The county judge presented an agenda item to adjust the county administrator's classification and responsibilities, noting the judge plans to retire and the change clarifies roles for prospective candidates. The court approved reclassification from E18 to E20 effective 07/23/2026 and adoption of a revised job description that will, effective 10/01/2026, formally include county budget officer duties under Subchapter C of the Texas Government Code, Chapter 111.

The court also authorized immediate transfer of supervision for a set of positions (grants administrator, IT director, public health director, indigent health care administrator, veterans services director, commissioner's court staff, facilities maintenance director, and public information officer) to the county administrator. Commissioner Webb moved to approve items A, B and C; the motion carried.

The change requires no budget amendment, and the judge said the revisions are intended to provide clarity for incoming candidates for the county administrator role.
