Friends group asks Selectboard to fund repairs at Orford cemeteries

Heidi Wilson, speaking on behalf of the Friends of the Orford Cemeteries, told the Selectboard the group needs to make minor repairs at Dame Hill and East Cemeteries and carry out more extensive work at West Cemetery. She said the Friends will pursue private donations and will likely ask the town to include funding in the 2027 budget or as a warrant article.

Selectboard members did not act on the request at the July 8 meeting. The board received a related piece of correspondence noting an offer from the Traceys to mow the East Cemetery; the minutes state that mowing decisions are the responsibility of the Cemetery Trustees. Any municipal funding or formal action would be decided through the 2027 warrant process if the board supports placing an article before voters.
