Orford Fire Chief reports 37% year-over-year rise in calls; equipment updates noted

Chief Sanborn told the Selectboard the Fire Department responded to 19 calls in June: 7 medical, 3 motor-vehicle collisions, 5 down-wire incidents, 2 service calls and 2 mutual-aid calls. He reported year-to-date calls for 2026 are 111 compared with 80 in 2025 — a 37% increase.

Sanborn updated the board on equipment and maintenance: the new utility vehicle has been lettered but requires repeater tuning; an Engine 3 leak has been repaired; hose and ladder testing are complete, and three lengths of hose failed and have been ordered as replacements. He also thanked the Hanover Fire Department for donating hose and said the old rescue truck has been posted for sale with inquiries but no offers yet.
