Committee adopts library levy at roughly $212,543, continuing 100% funding for eligible libraries

The Administration Committee voted to adopt a resolution establishing the county's library levy for 2027.

Dustin explained the levy calculation under state statute, which requires a minimum funding level of 70% for libraries serving county residents who lack a local library; the county has historically funded libraries at 100%. The packet showed a final levy total of $212,543, an approximate 3% increase from the previous year. Dustin confirmed the figure included Spring Valley's final numbers and that the levy is a separate special-purpose levy distinct from the county's general levy.

Supervisor Counter and others expressed support for funding libraries at the historical 100% level. The committee moved, seconded and passed the resolution unanimously; the levy will be forwarded to the county board in September as part of the 2027 budget process.
