Needleworker Ann Asantee displays intricate threadwork taking months to years to complete

Ann Asantee described her practice to the opening audience, explaining that her work is focused on thread-based techniques on 18-count canvas. "I've been doing this for over 25 years. I work on canvas. I work with yarns," she said, describing materials and practice.

Asantee said her pieces vary in scale and time to complete: "They take anywhere from 3 years to 6 months to develop, depending on the size," she told the audience. She highlighted narrative small-scale works, including a needlework piece of three women walking a dog that relies on minute details and humor.

Her work is exhibited alongside her sister Lucy Maragni's paintings; curator Leslie James noted the show highlights Union residents and will remain on view through August 17. Visitors were encouraged to sign the guestbook and consult artist contact cards if interested in purchases.
