Residents press reimbursement, demolition, and tax-impact questions; committee votes to submit PDP

A series of public questions asked designers and district representatives to clarify what the town's share would be after MSBA reimbursement and whether demolition and disposal of vacated buildings are included in the project budgets. Christy Bates asked for example, "This price is not including reimbursement. Is that correct?" Presenters responded that the presented numbers are project building costs and that eligible portions will be reimbursed under MSBA rules; the exact town share will be refined in PSR and schematic design.

On demolition and reuse, presenters said demolition of a subject school built on the same project site was included in the project assumptions and estimated as part of project cost; MSBA may treat some demolition costs as ineligible, and MSBA requires the district to state plans for any vacated building. A public participant asked whether an available vacated building could become a charter school; presenters replied that creating a charter is outside the district's scope but the town could consider reuse options if buildings become available.

The meeting closed with a formal motion. Committee member Steve moved to approve submission of the PDP to the MSBA once final edits were complete; Tom seconded. The committee took a roll-call voice vote and the motion carried with the members recorded as voting in favor (Valerie, Lindsay, Kristen, Dr. Chu, Jeff, Tom W., Steve, Allison, Elizabeth). The committee then adjourned.
